Anton Corbijn-Directed Depeche Mode Concert Film Coming Soon
Depeche Mode will release a live album and concert film later this month which documents their concerts in Berlin on the triumphant Delta Machine tour.
The British electro-rock outfit’s Live In Berlin DVD is directed by longtime creative collaborator Anton Corbijn and will arrive Nov. 17 via Columbia Records.
The two-hour-long film was shot over two concerts at the O2 World Berlin last November. The Delta Machine Tour saw the trio play venues of various types -- indoor arenas, stadiums, amphitheaters, parks and other outdoor concert sites and casino showrooms -- pulling in more than 2.4 million fans across 32 countries, according to reps for the band.
A deluxe package of the new release includes the Live in Berlin DVD, the Live in Berlin full-show audio on two discs, a Blu-ray copy of Delta Machine and a second Corbijn-directed DVD, Alive in Berlin, which includes the full show inter-cut with behind-the-scenes footage, interviews with the band, and a brief acoustic session ("Condemnation" and "Judas") filmed at Salon Bel Ami, apparently the oldest brothel in the German capital.
“Berlin has a special place in the hearts of Depeche Mode,” comments Corbijn in a statement. “Likewise, Depeche Mode has a strong following in the German capital and the film tries to capture the highlights of these concerts as well as that special connection through interviews with fans and bands alike.”
Produced by Ben Hillier and mixed by FloodDelta Machine was an international hit, topping the chart in 12 markets following its March 2013 release (it peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200). It’s the band’s 13th studio album, and the follow-up to 2009’s Sounds of the Universe.
Prior to its release, DM surprised many fans when they struck a deal with Columbia Records, ending a 30-year association with Daniel Miller’s Mute in the U.K., and in the U.S. with the Warner Music labels Sire and Reprise.
